What to Expect During Your Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) Session: A Step-by-Step Guide

Step-by-Step: Your First HBOT Session

Step 1: Meet & Greet (The Health Check)

Before you hop into your oxygen adventure, we will ask a few questions online about your health when you're making your initial booking. Make sure HBOT is safe for you and explain how everything works. Think of this as the “get-to-know-you” stage of the relationship. Ask all the questions—there are no silly ones!

Step 2: Fashion Moment — The Cotton Edition

Before going into the chamber, ideally your clothing should be 100% cotton, but it's okay if not.

You may also be advised to take off: Jewellery, watches and other accessories.

Step 3: The Safety Briefing (Short & Sweet)

You’ll get a quick rundown of what to expect. The staff will cover:

  • How to clear your ears (like on an airplane) during the pressurisation phase.

  • What the chamber looks like inside

  • How to talk to them during your session and any other safety tips

You might get a little nervous at this point. Totally normal. But remember: You’re not going in alone— we've got your back the whole time.

Step 4: Into the Chamber We Go!

You’ll lie or sit down, relax, and maybe even get tucked in with a blanket. It’s not claustrophobic—more like napping in a bright, quiet bubble.

Step 5: Pressure Time (Pop Those Ears!)

The chamber will slowly pressurise—think going up in an airplane. Your ears might feel full or pop a bit.

To help your ears:

  • Swallow

  • Yawn

  • Do the “pinch nose and blow gently” trick

This stage only takes 4-5 minutes, and we will guide you through it like a friendly co-pilot.

Step 6: Oxygen Time = Chill Time

Once the pressure is just right, you’ll start breathing 95% pure oxygen. Fancy, huh? This part lasts about an hour, and all you have to do is… nothing.

Seriously:

  • Nap 😴

  • Listen to music 🎧

  • Read a book 📖

Your body is soaking up extra oxygen and getting its healing boost while you lounge. It’s the most productive kind of doing nothing.

Step 7: Back to Normal Pressure

After your oxygen break, the chamber slowly lowers back to normal pressure. Your ears might pop again—same tricks apply.

This part takes 4-5 minutes, and it’s super chill. You’re basically landing from your oxygen-powered “flight.”

Step 8: All Done!

Once you're out, you might feel:

  • Super relaxed

  • A little sleepy

  • Or totally normal (everyone’s different)

The staff will check in with you, and then you’re good to go! Most people walk out feeling refreshed and even a little glow-y. ✨

Pro Tips for a Great First Session:

  • Eat something light before you go (not too full, not too empty)

  • Drink water before and after

  • Avoid caffeine and alcohol

  • Don’t worry if you’re nervous—it gets easier every time

That’s it! You just turned into an oxygen-powered healing machine

Whether you're in it for wound healing, recovery, or just to feel better, HBOT is a gentle, non-invasive way to give your body a big boost.

Now go reward yourself with something awesome—because you just had your first HBOT session like a champ! 💪
